Gymnast of the Year: Alys Roberts
Gymnast of the Year: Alys Roberts
Our gymnast of the year this year goes to a gymnast who ALL coaches wanted this award given to. This gymnast has been here since the start of Dreigiau’r Dyffryn. She’s so supportive of everything the club does, rarely missing a session. She always makes the coaches smile when she is here. She will never leave any gymnast out, she is the glue who keeps her fellow gymnasts training happily together. She has had a fantastic year, showing the most amazing progression on all equipment, developing new and old skills.
Attending and placing in competitions throughout the year, including a well-deserved trip to Cardiff to compete at the Gymspire Final representing Team North Wales where she received 1st place on floor. She is not only an exceptional gymnast but a hard worker, a thoughtful and kind individual who is considerate to all around her, with a very bright future ahead.
Most Improved Gymnast: Owain Williams
Throughout Owains 7 months at Dreigiau’r Dyffryn he has gone from strength to strength in his 2 hour boys session. Learning a number of skills and perfecting them. Owain is not only energetic and enthusiastic, he is compassionate, happy and one of the friendliest gymnasts to everyone at the club.
Most Focused Gymnast: Megan Owen
Every week Megan comes to her squad sessions focussed and ready to learn. Megan will attempt any skill asked and is always the first to try them too, being fearless on any piece of equipment. When Megan sets her mind to a skill, she will practice endlessly to achieve it. Since joining our Mini Dragons Squad Megan has improved immensely, achieving ribbons and medals in competitions due to her perseverance. Always being so focused in her gymnastics sessions, learning harder skills each week, her Monday cheerleading session gives her a chance to chill out, slightly.
Helper of the Year: Havi McMurray
Starting this time last year, Havi has been an absolute star volunteering on a Wednesday evening. After her own 3 hour gymnastics session she spends a further hour helping out at her sisters session. Usually helping coach Jes’ group, Jes can easily take a step back and let Havi give the gymnasts pointers and demonstrations on their skills, as well as giving words of support when needed. Havi’s confidence has grown hugely in the past year, well done you!
Best Newcomer: Cêt Owen
Having only being at Dreigiau’r Dyffryn for just three months, Cet is not only doing a gymnastics session but is also doing our cheerleading session where she has learnt a huge amount in both lessons. In her gymnastics sessions, she has been learning skills on the bar, beam, floor and vault as well as competing in her first 4 piece competition at the start of this month where she made all her coaches proud. Coaches Erin and Cari have applauded her quick learning in the cheerleading sessions, learning all the new jumps, moves and stunts.
‘Little Miss Sunshine’: Lwsi Hogan
Our Little miss sunshine this year goes to this gymnast because of their cheerful and happy personality, she is always chatty, even as a 4 year old, always tries her best and helps out her fellow gymnasts. She is a ray of sunshine and is a pleasure to have at the gym.
‘Little Mr Sunshine’: Osian Jones
Our Little Mr sunshine this year is given to a young gymnast who is constantly smiling, constantly positive and constantly having a good time. He spends his one-hour session trying new things and perfecting old skills, and all the coaches look forward to seeing him each week.
Stand Out Gymnast: Poppy Jones
This gymnast fully deserves our stand out gymnast of the year award due to her always working her hardest in her gymnastics sessions, quietly working away, improving her skills. Without fail every week a coach will comment to me how brilliant her gymnastics is and lovely she is.
The Triple A - Amazing Attitude Award: Morgan Williams
Morgan always comes to his sessions smiling away, excited and ready to learn. He always tries his best, even when skills are tricky and is over the moon when he completes a new skill. Morgan is a friendly gymnast who always encourages his friends and motivates others. His approach and attitude is positive and an example to all.
Last to Leave: Ishbel Holt
Ishbel is always working the hardest throughout her sessions, always asking to work on her skills and up for trying anything new without any fear. She is the gymnast who will spend an extra few minutes to perfect a skill and polish her routines. All this hard work paid off with Ishbel doing extremely well in her most recent competition placing 5th on bars, 4th on beam, 3rd on floor and 5th over all against gymnasts of a high level.
Most Dedicated Gymnast: Odin Griffiths
Without a doubt, Odin is our most dedicated gymnast. Every session Odin is ready to work hard, train hard but also have lots of fun. Odin will always listen closely to feedback given by coaches, in order to improve his skills. Odin is a delight to teach, and is always super friendly to all gymnasts and coaches he encounters at the club.
Ethos Tim Fwyaf: Alaw Williams
Alaw is always the first person to support and help other gymnasts, whether this be a reminder or words of encouragement. She’s always trying her best to make others feel comfortable and happy when at the gym! Alaw has not only been cheering others on at her time at the gym, but been helping others learn the Christmas show routine as she remembers it all the first go.
